Fit Like a'body,

Where does the time go when you enjoy yersel, the region has been very active o'er the months arranging events an a' thing. The Region has its AGM in March, at its new meeting place "The Neuk" Old Portlethan, just to the South of Aberdeen. A nicer wee pub and mine-host, you could nae wish tae meet. That was back in March, so to was a work shop visit to local dealership, the week afore. Since then there has been the special 'Club' invite for the launch of the new X-Type on May 21st by Reg Vardy which attracted about 38 folk. Our thanks to them for their generous hospitality on both occasions.

The first 'run' of the season took place this month. Thanks to Chris Farrow who gave this report: A bright and breezy Saturday, June 2nd saw the first cart run of the season for the Grampian Region. Six cars set out on the fourth "Whisky Run" with wives and sweethearts navigating (Tulip Rally Rules) to a secret distillery, deep in the Scottish Highlands. Cars ranged from an E-Type to an XJ8, and 100 miles later, our happy caravan landed at the Edradour Single Malt Distillery. This is the smallest distillery in Scotland (and the fastest Colin's series 1 XJ6 has been in a long time). After a guided tour, suitably heartened by a FREE glass of the amber liquid, and a quick visit to the gift shop, the party decamped to nearby Pitlochry for lunch. There the party was entertained by an (name withheld, to protect the innocent) ex-sailor with stories of his sewing (yes sewing) prowess. Altogether a great day out. (Thanks again to Chris and Mary for the great work they do in organising these runs; they are always such good fun. Ed.)

July of course sees the 2nd "Grampian Gathering" on the 29th July at Drum Castle, Aberdeen, from 12 noon until 4 pm. Drum Castle is just outside Aberdeen at Drumoak off the A93 road. This years attractions include the cars, (old and new), tombola, regalia stalls, models, face painting, whisky trail, bouncy castle, barbecue and much more. Cars wishing to take part in the informal judging must be on site before 11:30 am. The castle, which is run by the NTS, is open to the public and provides for an added interest away from the main event. Last year saw over 80 cars attend for the day and over 1300 visitors, lets hope that the regions are invited to attend this and our other events#) which will be held on the last Sunday of July each year.

  • For your diaries, other events planned are:
  • 12th August - Golden Wheels Show Aberdeen
  • 12th August - BBQ in George Allen's garden
  • 18th August - Car treasure hunt including over night stop for DBB
  • 9th September - Castle run
  • 3rd November - Browns Lane visit including DBB overnight stop
  • December - Xmas Dance venue TBA

This season has been dogged with F&M restrictions and precautions for many of us, but at least the roads are fairly free for enjoying our motoring pursuits, apart that is for Gatsos, animated yellow jackets with space guns, etc., etc., remember points gained make for loss of license; but all in all, enjoy yoursel's.

Slainte,

Benjecat
