The
Drum Gathering of Jaguars and Daimlers and JEC Ceilidh
Sunday
the 1st August saw the 5th annual Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club, Grampian Region,
Regional day at Drum Castle, Drumoak, Aberdeenshire. A fine display of
Jaguar and Daimler cars from Club members were supported by a quality
selection of special Jaguar cars from Larry Kinch [Racing XK120, Mk2],
Steve Wallace [Racing 'E' Type and 'D' Type] and Rossleigh Jaguar [New
XJ and 'S' Type] together with guest clubs totalling over 80 cars on the
day. The NTS reported that we had 1,100 visitors on the day which was
greatly appreciated by the Factor, Alex Gordon. Mike Young and his wife
Sue who attended the events supporting us with the JEC Raffle Car which
was on display both at the JEC Ceilidh and at Drum Castle. My thanks go
out to Mike and Sue for all the support and hard work over the weekend.
As well as cars on display there was plenty to do and see including enjoying
the castle grounds with several select stalls for the ladies and entertainment
and novelties for the children. The Kintore Pipe Band supported our event
and it was a splendid sight and sound with the Castle as a back drop.
Once again the weather was kind to us with bright sunshine coming out
in the afternoon after a misty morning session. My thanks go out to all
the committee, JEC members and helpers on the day to make this event a
great success.
The JEC Drum Gathering together with the JEC Grampian Region "Celidh"
which took place on the evening before our event at The Aberdeen Petroleum
Club - Kippie Lodge raised £1100 for "The New Hope Trust"
Charity in Peterhead who provide support for children throughout Grampian
and in Romania, while £1246 was raised for the "Norman Laud
Association" through the sale of tickets for the JEC Raffle Car [XK8],
a charity for handicap children. The draw for the XK8 will not be carried
out until 24th October this year at the NEC centre in Birmingham. This
is a record amount of money that the JEC Grampian Region has raised for
charity. My thanks go out to all those persons that generously donated
raffle prizes to make the event such a success. A true "team"
effort from our local JEC members, friends and family.
