The
8th of June saw the members and friends of Grampian Region take to the
hills for this years clay pigeon shooting extravaganza!.

After
a wet start to the day in the morning, the weather gave way to fairly
warm and bright conditions by the time we were due to start shooting.
The event was quite well attended, and the staff of the Kingscliff Sporting
Lodge looked after us splendidly throughout the day. We were split up
into 2 teams, team 1 being led by Kim Clarke, with team 2 under the watchfull
eye of Isobel Stalker. Each team was allocated a guide/trapper and we
were taken round an arduous 50 bird 'Sporting Course'. Much fun and entertainment
was had by all the members, but on the last 'stand' we were told that
there was a 'bolting rabbit' to hit, which was in actual fact, another
clay which was fired along the ground on its side. Much to everyone's
surprise, the said 'rabbit' took off like a hare on speed, so needless
to say, not many were hit..!! This didn't detract from the enjoyment of
the afternoon however, and everyone once finished shooting, was treated
to a fine plate of broth and some sandwiches... This was a most welcome
bite, since many of us had missed lunch in order to attend the event..!!
A
number of prizes were up for grabs, and the following members/guest were
the lucky winners:
'High
Gun', with an excellent score of 47/50 went to Lyndsay Smart
'Best
Lady' went to Kim Clarke with a very respectable score, but being a lady
wishes her age, er score, to remain private!!
'Runner
up' with a score of 45/50 went to Jim Stalker
Last
but by no means least, was Isobel Stalker, was presented with the 'Turkey'
with the inscription 'Last but Proud'. Isobel is delighted with her prize,
and her score represents a 300% improvement since last years event as
she scored 3/50...!!
The
bottle raffle, was won by Ian Philip
My
thanks to Derek Cruden (Treasurer) for presenting the prizes, and taking
so much abuse regarding his unique 'stance' on the course...., all those
who attended will know what I mean..!!
Thanks
also need to go the staff at Kingscliffe, for once again helping us make
this a super event, and we look forward to our next visit..!!
